Introducing Melody Winter

1. #IndieBookBanter today welcomes Melody Winter.  Please tell us a little bit about yourself, and the best place for us to find out more.

I live in North Yorkshire, England, with my husband and two teenage sons, although I often dream of living on the sunny island of Majorca.

I write dark romantic fantasy, and contemporary romance, and have a tendency to fall head-over-heels in love with my main characters, even when they frustrate me and refuse to act the way I want them to. I’m a romance writer at heart and love reading and writing about anything mythological or magical, as well as exploring the gritty side of love affairs and the complexities of being in love.

I do most of my writing at a big white desk in a room at home. It doubles as the boys gaming room, but when they’re at school it’s my office. I used to write on an evening with my laptop on my knee, and still do so occasionally. But I’m much more productive when at my desk with the big screen of my desktop in front of me.

2. Briefly tell us about your work in progress, what are you planning next?

I’m currently neck deep in edits of the third book of the Mine series, Sachael Discovery. When I hand that back to my publishers we’ll be straight on to line edits, and looking for a release at the beginning of next year. When all the writing is done on Sachael Discovery I’ll be heading into Adversity, the second book in the Ascent series. So hopefully I’ll have two books released next year—maybe even more!

3. What was the most unusual source of inspiration for any of your books?

Probably trying to find some underwater creature that could assist my antagonist in the Mine series. Who’d have thought that a golf-ball sized octopus could be the ultimate weapon? When I found out what it’s venom could do I knew I’d found the perfect creature.

4. Who was your favourite character to write about?

I love writing about all of them, but I do have a special place in my heart for all the men in my stories. I put them through so much at the hands of the women who they fall for. None of them have an easy time. But Erebus from Iniquity is such a character as is Kaimi from The Mine series. I love both of them.

5. Finally you are invited on a mission to a New World (unfortunately you cannot take any members of your family, friends or pets). Please tell us:-

a) Your favourite fictional character to accompany you?

It would have to be Kaimi from the Mine series. Although how he’d cope may be quite amusing.

b) Your favourite book?

Poison Study by Maria V Snyder

c) Your favourite song?

Kiss from a Rose by Seal. I saw him in concert last year in Manchester and cried when he sang this song. Such a special moment for me.

d) Your favourite food & drink to take with you (we don’t know what will be available on the New World).

Food – Chocolate

Drink – Prosecco

e) Finally, tell us the one (Yes, that is just ONE) item you cannot live without?

My ipod full of music (and life-long batteries)

Here are Melody’s books with a short description:-

SACHAEL DREAMS was my debut novel, (REUTS Publications, USA) and the first in the New Adult Romantic Fantasy series—the ‘Mine Series’. The second book in the series, SACHAEL DESIRES’, was released in November 2015, and the remaining books in the series, SACHAEL DISCOVERY, and, SACHAEL DESTINY, are due to be released in the near future.

I have also self-published two books, INIQUITY, the first book in a Dark New Adult Romantic Fantasy series— ‘The Ascent’ (The second book in the series, ADVERSITY, is due for release this year.) and STARSHINE, my first contemporary romance, was released on 29th May 2017.

‘Sachael Dreams’

Sachael 1Twenty-two-year-old Estelle Bailey has had enough of busy city-life and her hot-tempered ex. She escapes to the seclusion and peace of her family’s cliff-top home in Ravenscar, where the soothing solitude whispers to her soul as strongly as the sea itself does. But her newfound contentment is interrupted when a mysterious man—a Sachael, master of seduction—joins her midnight swim unexpectedly.

Estelle struggles against his charm and the overpowering attraction she feels for him. He offers her a life she never could have imagined, a life beneath the waves . . . but at what cost? Before she can decide, she’s captured, ensnared by the Sect, a secret enemy of the Sachaels, becoming a pawn in a war she knew nothing about.

Now, she’s left with a new choice—escape the clutches of the Sect and flee into the ocean, or side with her alluring, intimidating captor and destroy the Sachaels forever. Can she turn her back on the man she might love, or will the secret of her heritage change everything?

Set against a picturesque backdrop, Sachael Dreams is the first in a new series, exploring themes of romance, love, and identity, and the struggle that happens when all three collide.

Sachael Desires

Sachael 2During her ordeal with the Sect, Estelle Bailey dreamt of escaping back into the arms of the sea—and Azariah. But freedom came at a price, and though she’s back with the Sachael who’s stolen her heart, she’s also land-bound until the next full moon. And with the threat of Orontes looming ever larger behind them, Azariah, Estelle, and Michael—her once-captor turned rescuer and friend—are on the run.

Following Michael’s lead, they seek sanctuary amidst the natural beauty of the Orkney and Shetland Islands until Estelle can complete her next submergence ritual and Azariah can whisk her away to the safety of Saicean.

Secrets, betrayals, and old enemies await them, though, and as events spiral out of control, Azariah makes a decision that puts all their lives at risk, forcing Estelle to face a journey she never wanted to take. With time running out and tempers running high, her only hope to save the man she loves lies in a reconciliation between two kingdoms who despise each other.

Book Two in the Mine Series, Sachael Desires further expands on the intricate underwater world of the Sachaels, and the hostility and isolation of not belonging.

Iniquity 1Athena Harrow is about to turn twenty-one, but there will be no celebration. What is there to celebrate when the world is ruled by demons?

She hates the darkness the demons brought with them and longs for the light to return to the world—a world she only vaguely remembers. The people in her forest village blindly accept the life the demons forced upon them, even tolerating the yearly ascension ceremony where all the girls who have turned twenty-one are either sent away to serve the Master Demon or left in the village and forced to procreate.

But Paymon, the assigned village demon, selects a different role for Athena, a role that pits her against the village. While she adapts to her new life, Erebus, a younger, more powerful demon, arrives, and Athena must play a dangerous game with his emotions in return for information about the demon’s reign of darkness.

As Athena’s dreams of restoring the light begin to fade, her life with Erebus takes an unexpected turn, and this time it’s her life being put to the test.

Set in the forest around Buttercrambe in North Yorkshire, England, INIQUITY explores the frightening, darker side of romance and the uncontrolled emotions it can unleash.

StarshineFilm student Ella Summers can’t believe her luck when she is selected to work on the set of the most anticipated film release of the year—STARSHINE. For the next four weeks, she’ll be in the studio with heart-throb and leading man Alex Denton, and his co-star—and recent ex—the stunning Amy Strickland.

But her first day on set has her questioning the true character of the enigmatic and sexy Alex. The charming celebrity she’s adored on screen disappears before her very eyes—if indeed he ever really existed.

Off-camera arguments between Alex and Amy become difficult to ignore, and when Ella uncovers layers of deceit and closely guarded secrets between them, she becomes involved in a battle that has far-reaching implications.

With the paparazzi hounding her every move for the most sensational story they can get, Ella becomes deeply embroiled in Alex’s life. Can she break down his seemingly impenetrable walls, or will he remain the arrogant ass she first met?

STARSHINE is set in London, England. Beware though—Alex Denton has a crude mouth, and an equally wicked smile.
