Unlikely Soldiers Book Four: Murder & Mayhem
by Deb McEwan
Book 17 of my Goodreads Challenge 2020
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
This is Book 4 in the ‘Unlikely Soldiers Series’, and if you have not yet read the other books it is highly recommended that you delve between their pages before reading this one.
In this final book of the series the author captures the very essence of Hong Kong as I imagine it to be, from the very first smells Mouse (the main character) encounters as she steps from the plane. Then to her experience with the high populace and all the hustle and bustle of the streets of this garish neon world, right down to its very dark and dangerous underbelly.
I do however at times want to slap Mouse, sticking her nose in business that does not concern her and putting herself in mortal danger. The young woman has no thoughts or concerns that she could even be stepping into, and messing up someone’s criminal investigations.
The ending was rather unexpected, and although it did give us a conclusion it has also left an opening for the possibility of a new series in a slightly new direction for the future perhaps?
A great read, and like I mentioned in the beginning If you have not read the other books it is highly recommended that you do. This will enable you to get the full picture and back story of the life of – Sergeant Michelle (Mouse) Halfpenny.
